Ninety percent of the earth's volcanoes exist on the edge of the Pacific plate's "Ring of Fire". Taiwan is located on the edge of the Eurasian Continental Plate within the Ring of Fire. The Datun Volcano Group, located in the Taipei Basin, is a complete volcanic topographic landscape within the national park. The active fumaroles emitting jets of steam and geothermal resources such as hot springs draw many visitors, making the volcano group a important tourist and recreational attraction of North Taiwan. In recent years, geologist and geophysicists have analyzed numerous pieces of data on Taiwan's volcanoes and have come to the conclusion that magma chambers still exist underneath the Datun Volcano Group.
