Coral Reef Ecological Observation Network joint conference
The Coral Reef Ecological Observation Network (CREON) and Pacific Rim Applications and Grid Middleware Assembly (PRAGMA) held a joint international conference in Kenting National Park Administration Office on March 13 and 14. The meeting was attended by around 60 experts and scholars from Taiwan, the US, Australia, Japan, South Korea, Malaysia, Costa Rica and Thailand and was one of the most important international academic events held in the Kenting area in recent years.
The recovery of Kenting’s coral reefs from the 2007 coral bleaching crisis attracted the world’s attention and the conservation research work carried out diligently by related bodies in Taiwan for many years has gradually been given importance internationally. Academia and government bodies in Taiwan have also strengthened international cooperation and are working hard together to build a Kenting coral reef monitoring system with the aim of, through international and inter-regional cooperation, developing advanced integrated satellite remote sensing and warning system, on-site monitoring equipment network, Internet monitoring and meeting technology, also establishing a digital environmental research and management system for coral reef ecology monitoring and real-time disaster monitoring, contact and response, with the aim of creating a new situation for global coral conservation, management, research and education in the face of the pressing challenge of global warming.
