Taiwan Ecology of Wetland Fishes Special Exhibition: Good News on “Taiwan Horse Mouth” Out-of-Season Spawning and Hatching of Fries

The National Museum of Marine Science & Technology, in conjunction with the Yangmingshan National Park Headquarters and Taijiang National Park Headquarters, organized the “Ecology of Wetland Fishes” Special Exhibition. The special exhibition includes the “Taiwan Horse Mouth” (Candidia barbata), a type of minnow endemic to Taiwan found in the Laomei River of Yangmingshan. Due to the exhibition curating and conducive habitat environment, the female fish spawned out-of-season recently and many fries were hatched, which has become the first good news of the Ecology of Wetland Fishes exhibition with the coming of spring.

The “Ecology of Wetland Fishes” Special Exhibition is currently on display in the Special Exhibition Gallery of the National Museum of Marine Science & Technology in Keelung. The exhibition will be ending on April 12th (Sunday). In addition to the live aquarium display of rare fish, this special exhibition also offers an introduction and photography exhibition on the unique volcanic habitat and river environment of Yangmingshan. Visitors will be able to gain more knowledge about Yangmingshan on different levels. Later on, some of the themed exhibition content will be moved to the Yangmingshan National Park Headquarters Visitor Center, members of the public are welcome to visit.
