“Namukang Nature-loving Cyclists’ Station”─happy cycling at Nanan

Nanan Visitor Center, the eastern entrance to Yushan National Park, is located in Jhuocing village, Jhuosi rural township, Hualien County. It is called “Namukang”(藍畝岸) by the local Bunun aborigines, meaning “red earth valley surrounded by mountains on four sides.”  It was transliterated into Chinese by the park HQ as “Nanan”. To serve the increasing number of people who want to cycle when they visit the east of the national park, at the end of 2007 a trial cycle hire service was launched. It has been well received by the public, offering an alternative way of exploring the trail system and the locality.

To increase service quality, allow visitors to get close to nature using an environmentally-friendly method and reduce carbon emissions, the “Namukang Nature- loving Cyclists’ Station” has been established in Nanan Visitor Center. It offers a bike hiring service like before and also Taiwan’s first “happy cycling system”, giving visitors more complete and comfortable service.

Lan-mu-an Nature Loving Cyclists’ Treaty
I am a happy nature-loving rider
I come from Namukang Bunun valley, a valley surrounded by mountains
I won’t do anything that will harm Mother Earth
