Jazz Festival on Yangmingshan

March is the most beautiful season on Yangmingshan. After the baptism of winter, flowers bloom and among the trees, you can hear the chirping of Muller's barbet. In this special season, the Ministry of the Interior plans to hold four Jazz performances on two successive weekends (March 24, 25, 31 and April 1), from 3:00pm to 5:00pm. The festival will be held at the area behind the Visitor Center. Many well-known Jazz bands will give performances for the weekend audiences.

Minister of the Interior, Lee Yi-yang, personally contacted Jazz bands to play in the upcoming Jazz Festival. Lee is a Jazz fan. He plays the saxophone, trombone, and more than ten kinds of instruments. Lee used to organize Jazz concerts in Taipei city hall and would like to share the wonderful experience with every one by presenting the festival to all.

The Jazz numbers include African, European classical music, pop and folk music. This is the first time a Jazz music festival is held on Yangmingshan. The repertoire includes early blues, soul, Latin jazz, free jazz of a later period and modern popular music.

Some of the famous Taiwan bands to perform are: Lin Jia Chin the Great Music Group, KUPA Big Band, Dizzy Jazz Band and Taiwan Jazz Big Band.

The Taipei Nook Cafe, a group dedicated to helping the disabled, will sell coffee as part of a charity bazaar. This will make the Jazz Festival in Yangmingshan an activity that integrates Jazz music with environmental consciousness and a warm and humane atmosphere. The Ministry of the Interior appeals to the public to use the mass transit system to help ease traffic and not have to go through the difficulty of finding a parking space. Moreover, the organizer will announce any changes due to inclement weather on the websites of the Ministry of the Interior, Construction and Planning Agency, Ministry of the Interior, and Yangmingshan National Park. Those interested can visit those websites or call (02)2861-6341, ext 800, 801.
