To encourage people to engage in healthy leisure activities and appreciate the beauty of Taiwan’s national parks the “New Year ascent of Qixing Mountain to celebrate the ROC’s centenary” activity will be held to start the new year, inviting people from Taiwan and overseas to celebrate the first day of the ROC’s centenary year by climbing to the peak of Qixing Mountain, the highest in Taipei, getting close to nature and stimulating a determination to protect Taiwan’s natural environment. The event will kick-off at 7.30 am on January 1. The route starts from Lengshuikeng, pass Menghuan Lake, then climb up to Qixing Mountain’s east peak before summiting the main peak, then comes down via Xiaoyoukeng, a route 3.85 kilometers long. Everyone who is in reasonable physical condition and enjoys hiking is welcome to register. It is hoped that participants will make use of public transport to reach the venue. It can be cold on the mountain at this time of year and the weather can change quickly so participants should wear/carry warm clothes, rain gear, and also any necessary medicine and a first aid kit. The national park’s Lengshuikeng and Xiaoyoukeng visitor center will open earlier than normal, at 7am, on the day, January 1, 2011.For information or assistance participants should go to one of the visitor centers.
