Restrooms to be built on the Tunnel of Nine Turns Trail

Walk along the Tunnel of Nine Turns Trail and you will see some of the best sights at the Taroko Gorge National Park--breathtaking precipices that drop to a stream below. Countless tourists have hiked along this 2 kilometer trail, but some have expressed disappointment at the lack of restroom facilities along the way. In response, the Taroko National Park Administration has made plans to build public restrooms. The project begins mid June.

The Taroko National Park Administration has in the past done feasibility studies on building such facilities but safety issues such as the danger of rockfalls, the narrow width of the trail (lack of space), and difficulty in finding water sources have prevented project implementation. But after further studies, a suitable location-under the rock prevention tunnel would be the better place for the restroom facilities. Upon completion, park administration officials say that the convenient rest facilities would increase the overall quality of the site.
