There was a large scale rock fall near the western entrance to the Tunnel of Nine Turns Trail on the morning of April 30. The area was cordoned off by the park HQ and the western section of the trail was closed. The eastern section is still open.
The three rock falls that hit close to the western entrance of the trail were probably the result of recent heavy rains. The rock fall was quite heavy and almost covered the whole road over an area of 40 meters long. Luckily no one was injured. The western section of the trail has been closed and the situation is being observed closely. When the rock is stable the trail will be reopened. The eastern section of the trail is opened to the eastern ventilation hole. Visitors are asked to turn around when reaching this point.
After rain Taroko Gorge is susceptible to rock falls. Visitors are asked to stick close to the cliff walls when in the gorge and keep alert, especially in areas with rock warning signs, to stay safe.
