The traffic control applies to the Highway No. 8 at km 176.1-176.8, four passage a day

Due to the serious rockslides at km 176.3(Zhuilu Tunnel) on the highway No. 8, for the safety of road users the Highway Bureau Luoshao Maintenance office shows that the repair work will continue to the third stage works to improve the safety of road users. The traffic controls are in effect at km 176.1~ km176.8 Xiufu Tunnel- Jinheng Tunnel, 4 passages a day for cars and pedestrians and open during the night. The four passages are 10:00-10:10, 12:00pm-13:00, 15:00-15:10, and 17:00-second morning 8:00am. Control Period: April 29 – May 31, 2016(including weekends) From the east entrance(at km 186.5) to Taroko gorge driving further west to this traffic control section is about 12 minutes by car. The Swallow grotto trail(located at 178.8km/ 1.38km/ about 30 minutes one way hiking trail) opens vehicles 40 sitter buses. (This trail is not located in the traffic control area. It is before the control site.) Visitors are allowed to enter the gorge from the east entrance to Buluowan(about 10km/15 by car). The Buluowan recreation area is still opened to visitors. Be very careful and not to enter road closed areas. The followings trails are open to visitors: 1.Xiaozhuilu Trail(start from the park headquarters- Shakadang trailhead 1km/20 minutes one way) 2.Shakadang Trail(open section from trailhead to 5D Cabin-Wujianwu/3km for a round trip/an hour hike) 3.Eternal Spring Shrine trail--only open the east(Zen Monastery) trailhead to the bell tower. The rest of trail is closed due to the rockfalls. One can choose to stop for photos taking for this scenic spot. 4.Buluowan upper terrace trail(300 meter) 5.Swallow grotto trail(located at 178.8km/ 1.38km/ about 30 minutes one way hiking trail) 6. Lushui Trail(2km/ about an hour hike) 7. Dekalun trail- located at the taroko terrace- start at the park HQ (2 hr for a round trip) 8.Huide Trail- located at Highway No. 9 Visitor are advised to change your travel plans ahead not to enter the construction traffic control point to avoid entering rockfalls areas. The above mentioned trails do not need any permits. Only if you are entering the park eco-protection areas(Mt. Qilai, Mt. Nanhu, etc.) and the Old Zhuilu trail you are required to apply both park and mountain entry permits. Check our park website and click English/ Fees & Permits for details.
