National Parks of Taiwan

This book uses photographs and text to explore Kinmen past and present, covering the natural changes that has occurred, the days of large scale migration to southeast Asia, the days of war, the granite like tough and resilient character developed by the people amidst Kinmen’s rain, dew, wind and fog.

Mr. Liao Dong-kun was commissioned by the national park HQ to take the photographs and write the book in way suited to an international audience. His photographs capture the traces of time and his text is fluent and vivid and has an irresistible tension. He knows and loves Kinmen and has carried out ecological observation over a long period of time. He sent a year carrying out field work and interviewing people for the book. The book has seven main sections: old houses, beliefs, the wind-lion god, war, flora, birds, the tidal zone, telling us about Kinmen in different eras.
