“Taiwan National Parks Walk for Health” 2013 National Park Week Events

Since the first national park, Kenting National Park, was established in 1984, several unique sites have been successively designated for development of national parks, including Yushan, Yangmingshan, Taroko, Shei-Pa, Kinmen, Donsha Atoll, and Taijiang area, and they are now full-ledged national parks. These national parks, along with Taichung and Kaohsiung Metropolitan Parks and Shoushan National Nature Park, take on the mission to preserve natural and historic assets and facilitate academic research, as well as provide the citizens of Taiwan and visitors high-quality recreation. With abundant resources and knowledge in geology, landscape, flora and fauna, and history, these national class parks are the best classrooms for learning and experiencing the ecologies. This year's National Park Week is themed "Taiwan National Parks Walk for Health". The national parks in Taiwan collaboratively planned 36 walking trails for different eco-experiences and skill levels, streaming up the unique natural and cultural sites, to lead the visitors into the wonders of the national parks. The national parks of Taiwan have in store a series of fun and exciting events for the 2013 National Park Week, including the 102K walk for health and a wide range of innovative activities. The 36 trails in the national parks, national nature park, and metropolitan parks will take you through the diverse ecologies in Taiwan from the oceans to the mountains. You can plan a challenge trip to fit your preferences and physical level by mixing and matching the different trails. This event will be officially launched in May 15th and last till August 15th. For the 102K Walk Passport, please make your request at the National Park Headquarters, Metropolitan Park Administration Offices, and the National Nature Park Preparation Office, or download from the event website (http://npweek.cpami.gov.tw/). In this event, you will have the opportunity to explore nature through the national park trails, give your physical strength a challenge, and enjoy the outdoors, and don't forget to collect the points for a gift that you can bring home as a token of memory for your first experience of the national park week. The campaigns of nature and ecology preservation are a significant link in environmental education. Let's walk for health in the national parks. Taiwan may not be a huge country, but every national park is unique. The 36 trails planned for this three-month event feature different themes that will take you through the oceans, cultures, ecologies, mountains and canyons, and the activities and recreational programs will bring you deep into the nature. This is an event of recreation, as well as education; you will learn the wisdom of nature and the missions and goals of the national parks, while you walk through beautiful mountains and lakes.
