Echo of Time: Give Yourself an Opportunity to Gain Deep Understanding of Sangu Village

Let Echo of Time Bring You Back to 1940

"Echo of Time" is an outdoor reality puzzle game jointly developed by the Taijiang National Park Headquarters, Chen Yi-Fu and the research team from the Local Community Creative Development Center of Southern Taiwan University of Science and Technology, and Mango Game Studio commissioned by the Sangu Community Development Association. They have transformed the cultural and historical stories of local communities into a novel reality puzzle game. The game brings visitors back to Sangu Village in Qigu District, Tainan City in the early 1940s, and guides them to go on an adventure and solve puzzles together with their friends!

According to the historical archives of the Sangu Community Development Association in Tainan City, Sangu Village is a part of Qigu District, Tainan City. It is said that in 1823, a torrential storm in Taiwan caused major floods that changed the course of the Zengwun River. The river flowed into the Taijiang Inner Sea and caused silting. The change in the coastal terrain turned Sangu into land, and the place was called "Guanzipu" at the time. In 1877, Huang Dang, Huang Wo, and Huang Yi combined their capitals to jointly open a freshwater fish farm and named the place "Sangu Shou". Sangu Village was named after this, and this is the origin of Sangu Village's name.

Tour Sangu and Play at Local Sites

The background story of "Echo of Time" is based on the story of Mazu revealing her spirit. Its a story that has been passed down through generation in the Sangu Village. Local guided tours are also incorporated to let visitors gain deep understanding of the Sangu community's unique architecture, landscape, and stories through the visitors’ participation in the game in groups. The features that make up the important challenges in the game's story include the Longde Temple, broadcast tower, carp pond, banyan trees, clam wall painting, Ji-an incense shop, rice mill, and oyster shack.

As participating visitors find clues to win the game, they must also adapt to the culture and wear shulang skirts, which are traditional work clothes worn by fishermen in fish farms in the past. The participants will visit the game levels hidden within the village one by one. To enhance the sense of achievement and amusement, the winning team can use the broadcast tower in front of the temple to declare victory. This is certainly an unforgettable travel experience!

The story of the game is not arbitrarily made up. The story planning team, Mango Game Studio, started by interviewing local seniors to seek out sites that held rich uniqueness of the place. Combined with the local tour plans already formulated by the Sangu Community Development Association, the distance between each challenge location is about 800 meters. The game is suitable for people of all ages. After the game launched, it has been well received by young, middle-aged, and older participants.

Would you like to go on an unforgettable cultural eco-tour with friends and family? The Sangu community opens registrations for activity sessions irregularly. Each session will be announced in advance on the Facebook page "Sangu Trip - Agricultural Experience and Souvenirs". People from all walks of life are invited to pay attention.
