Taroko National Park is famed for its spectacular gorge, cliffs, curved creeks and terraced rivers. The Liwu River erodes rock layers over time, and combined with rain wash, it creates the contrast between high mountains and deep valleys. The gorge is famed as a world-class scenic spot that is not to be missed.
The Zhuilu Old Road is a popular trail. However, due to its unique geographic environment, precious history and culture and traffic control, entry to the trail must be applied for beforehand to avoid excessive damages and disruptions to the natural ecology.
"The rap version of matters of attention when visiting the Zhuilu Old Road" was published on December 6, 2021 on the Facebook fan page of Taroko National Park. Within a short time, the video gained more than 410,000 views and 20,000 likes, and the number of fans increased by 254%. It was a promotional video that had no budget and a cast of ordinary people, but it created excellent traffic and a social media effect, gaining more publicity for the park.
"Matters of attention when you pass through the cliff, from 2.6K to 3.1K: don't use cell phone unless necessary, no hopping, no fooling around, no running and no dangerous moves." Educational materials that are normally serious become fun when sung in a joyful rap style while educating people on the safety matters in a different way.
In the future, the Taroko National Park Headquarters will keep trying to use lively ways to produce videos on ecological conservation, in order to fulfill the educational function of a national park.
The long-stretching Xueshan Range envelopes ecologies from the temperate zone to the cold zone. Among which, the Formosan landlocked salmon in the Cijiawan Creek in Wuling is the best known. It is a relic from glacial times. With proper conservation and breeding, its number reached a historical high of 12,587 in a research conducted in 2020.
The Shei-Pa National Park Headquarters installed underwater cameras in the Cijiawan Creek so that visitors can observe the activities of the Formosan landlocked salmon simply by scanning the QR code with their cell phones. This way, they can view high-definition live underwater shows of fish swimming any time, without limitations of time, space or weather.
The Shei-Pa National Park Headquarters worked with Kbro cable TV so that the general public can also view real-time images in their TV channel other than scanning the QR code. Schools of fish chasing and feeding in the creek is a sight to behold. The system organizes video information and uploads it to the back-end database to record the activity of the fish 24 hours a day, thus facilitating conservation work.
The underwater live show had excellent results. In the future, the Shei-Pa National Park Headquarters may plan videos for more locations to share the diverse natural ecology of the Cijiawan Creek and to promote environmental conservation.
