Celebration for the 17th Anniversary of Kaohsiung Metropolitan Park launched a series of events.

Kaohsiung Metropolitan Park launched the "Snake Year Walk for the Environment and Health" event today (April 13th 2013) as part of the celebration for the 17th anniversary of Kaohsiung Metropolitan Park. The organizer utilized the immense space of the park to plan a "snake trail" echoing the theme of the Snake Year. This is a game of challenges themed on knowledge of environment, ecology, and environmental protection. Many families took up the challenge in this fun fair, celebrating the birthday of Kaohsiung Metropolitan Park with laughter and smiles. The event ended the opening day of the anniversary celebration and the participants bid each other welfare till they see each other again in the other events of the anniversary series. The organizer launched different events on every weekend. On April 22nd World Earth Day, several HD movies were played at the conference room of the Visitor Center, including Natural Formosa and the Taiwan National Park series, showcasing the beauty of nature in Taiwan. The "Let's Care for Earth- Removing Foreign Species" event invited a botany expert to teach participants how to identify foreign plants, such as the White Popinac and Common Parthenium, and led the participants in activities to remove foreign species. After dark, the Park turned its lights off for one hour to launch the "Lights Out, Stars On, Nature's Wonders" event. Community College Teaching Excellence Award winner, Mr. Wang Chun-Chi, led participants to observe the night ecology and stars. Kaohsiung Metropolitan Park is marching towards its goal of being a "growing park" and completed the overall planning for park facilities, including the music plaza, bicycle trail, hiking trail, lawn for events, view terrace, reforestation area, and themed gardens. Through recreational activities, the park administration brings visitors into the activities of joint management, which will in turn raise the public awareness of the environment and management of the park and make the Kaohsiung Metropolitan Park part of the residents' lives. Our goal is to raise awareness of the valuable natural resources and bring environmental education to the everyday activities of the residents. Our mission is to create a high-quality recreation center where visitors will enjoy different views in all seasons.
