Shei-Pa National Park offers a variety of different ways to experience nature. Three Youth Camps will be held this year with different events.
The first camp is from July 17 to July 19 and is in the Wuling area. Events include guided commentaries, directed events, Yansheng Waterfall hands-on activities, tree climbing, nature observation, etc. The event is focused on teaching observation of the natural ecology and environmental education. Participants will visit the Formosan Landlocked Salmon Ecology Center and stay at the Wuling Farm camping area. Participants will learn how to put up a tent and cooking skills since the first night's dinner will be up to themselves. Learning to cook in the wild will also cultivate relationships among youths while working to achieve a common goal, and will learn about the Leave No Trace concept.
The second camp is from July 31 to August 2 with guided commentaries, climbing of the Xueshan Dongfeng, Yansheng Waterfall hands-on activities, etc. The climbing of the 3,201 meter Dongfeng is the highlight of this camp event. Along the way participants will pass Qika Lodge, Kupo, and finally reach the peak. This event will let participants experience mountains fully and feel the pulse of the forest, mountains and wilderness.
The third camp is from August 14 to 16 and is focused on the aboriginal experience. There will be commentaries, Petanque events, tree climbing, nature observation, etc. Participants will learn about the Atayal culture of the Bailan tribe.
Registration for this year's Shei-Pa National Park Youth Camp begins on June 3. There will be 36 participants for each camp event. The camps have been a success each year and participants have expressed that Shei-Pa Youth Camps are different from other camps. Many previous participants re-register each year.
